Backdrop Tutorials

One of the first things I notice when I see all the amazing dessert tables being styled is the backdrop. It was also one of those parts of planning a dessert table which troubled me the most for my daughter’s party as there are so many ideas out there for backdrops!

So today I decided to compile some links of tutorials available on the internet of some DIY backdrop ideas.

If you want a collapsable stand that you can set up anywhere to attach a backdrop to, follow this tutorial to make your own!

A backdrop of paper rosettes can create a stunning effect and allows you to mix and match various colours and patterns of paper:

A ribbon backdrop is such a pretty and interesting way to create a backdrop and the wonderful Leanne from Sweet Style created this easy tutorial for creating this style of backdrop:

I was lucky enough to work with Pauline from Sophisticated Yum last year who created this amazing Mermaid theme dessert table. She created a netted backdrop which you could use for any sea related theme:

If you are up for a bit of a challenge then this paper flower backdrop is just gorgeous!

Tassel Garlands are becoming more popular in backdrops – follow this link for an easy tutorial on how to make your own:

Real Party Feature – Lalaloopsy Baptism Celebration

I swooned when I saw the images of this Lalaloopsy Baptism celebration by Kate from Piece of Cake Parties & Celebrations for her daughter Paige! Kate decided to setup various tables each styled around the personality and characteristics of a different Lalaoopsy doll. What results is a gorgeously detailed and thought out celebration with loads of prettiness!

The main table was set up in front of their cubby house (looks like a dream cubby house!) and this backdrop is just gorgeous! Love the chandelier, gold birdcages and the pretty bunting which all work so well together! It is honestly stunning!

On this table Kate had cupcakes, white chocolate mousse, cookies and other sweets along with Paige’s beautiful two tiered Christening cake, decorated with sweet icing buttons & bows.

I just love the extra detail added to these mousse pots and drink bottles including the way the platters have been decorated:

This drinks table is ever so sweet and demonstrates a great set up which you could use for your own parties.

Styled around another of the dolls is this Morning Tea table with scones, jams and strawberry custard tarts complete with a biscuit tiled floor! I just love this beautiful table:

Also set up was an assorted cakes and dessert table again based around one of the Lalaloopsy dolls which has a connection with bandages, bumps and bruises – hence the cute extra bandage details on this table!

A lot of the party wares came from Kate’s own online store Piece of Cake Parties & Celebrations however there were lots of other great suppliers involved and full credits and sources can be found in the full blog post on this celebration.

Thank you Kate for giving me the opportunity to showcase this beautiful celebration for Paige!

Easter Celebration

With Easter around the corner I thought I would put together a few selections of some Easter items for those of you wanting to put together something special for Easter.

Easter is a great time to do some fun crafts with your children and make some special decorations and items for around the house – or perhaps a time you enjoy making ‘Easter’ related craft items yourself.

So these ideas are just something extra to go on top of that, or are for those craft-challenged mums (like me!) or perhaps time-poor mum’s who want something simple and easy they can buy to add something special to their Easter celebration.

Of course there are lots of lovely things at the shops as well and I particularly love the collection in ‘Bed, bath n Table’! However I know the convenience which online shopping can bring in planning your celebrations, so I hope this collections helps!

Farmyard Theme

Most kids love animals which makes a farmyard theme a common and fun theme for a birthday celebration!

You can incorporate natural elements such as wood and grass into the party scene, or make it as colourful as you like. Gingham is a popular pattern in this theme so I have included lots of gingham products in this post.

You can incorporate tin pails, toy farm animals (or real ones!!), straw hats, fresh fruit and milk and wooden crates etc to develop a true farm feel. Some hire companies have great farm props such as water barrels and hay bales. You can also pick up some lovely Country style home decor items in the stores these days which could double as something extra special on the party table.

Remember to have a look at the Party Directory page on the blog for links to lots of suppliers for invites, party decor, hire items and more!

Space theme

Space, rocket, astronauts and aliens will always be popular with little men and there is a lot available for this party theme to make it easy for your party planning!

Traditional colours of blue, green, red and yellow feature commonly with this theme along with silver. You could incorporate stars into your decor as well as lanterns for an easy ‘planet’ look .

You may choose to focus on only one area of the “space” theme for the party, such as Rockets if that is what your little one is obsessed with! Or go for a full space scene incorporating aliens and astronauts.

I hope this blog post provides you some ideas and inspiration for this Space theme!

New party finds – Feb 2012

There seems to be a lot of new party items coming up in all the online party stores! Here are a few which have caught my eye which I thought may interest you. I may do “new find” posts more often so feel free to e-mail me if you have a great new party product coming out! I have a feeling there will be lots of new products coming out in the next month or so after all the trade fairs finish up =)

These cake stands (available in pink, blue and white) are great child-proof options for your cake or other desserts and easily stored away too:

Cake stand - {P} is for Party

Also love these child-proof bright cake stands!

Coloured cake stands - coming soon to The Little Big Company

It’s always great to have more lovely disposable tableware options. Here is one new range which would be perfect for a Paris theme, Minnie Mouse theme, a Glam party theme or other girly theme with this colour scheme:

Tableware - Piece of Cake Parties & Celebrations

This is such an ultra-sweet party range by Belle and Boo which you could use to create a stylish and cute party without having a specific theme. There is everything from matching party bags to buntings and more!

How gorgeous are these? Perfect for the nursery/bedroom and then can be used for all sorts of pretty party occasions!

Continuing the prettiness with this gorgeous teapot!

Blackboard signs are great on a party table or to welcome party guests or even to hold up with a message in a photo area!

Cakes in a jar have become quite popular lately and here are new jars available which are perfect to serve these in:

An alternative to party printables are ‘ready to go’ party packs and a new range has been introduced by Saffy & May with a range of items included. Here is one of the themes available:

Love the idea of a chandelier decoration at a party – this cardboard one can be painted to look so pretty and obviously a lot more affordable option than a genuine chandelier!

Cardboard chandelier - Little Sooti

So they are a few of the recent party items I’ve spotted. Have you spotted anything new for parties which has stood out for you? Please share if you have!

2012 brings another little celebration…

Happy (belated) New Year to you all! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and break (or are continuing to enjoy your break!)

I took a break over Christmas/New Year and I know I have been a bit slow in my blog posts since the end of last year and I can finally tell you why!

We are expecting baby number #2 in July…another “little celebration”!

I found out 1 week before my daughters 1st birthday party. After about 2 weeks total exhaustion set in….I am sure you all know what that first trimester exhaustion is like (particularly for pregnancies after your first when you have other kids to look after!). So hence my blog posting did quieten down! I am just going into my 2nd trimester now and the energy levels are still a bit low so please bear with me! =)

In the midst of this we decided to sell our place and we are now in the midst of packing and will need to be out by the end of January….so it is a big month!

So please accept my apologies if my blog posting is a bit slow this month also (even though I’d much rather be blogging than packing!!!).

I just really wanted to explain my quietness to all of you lovely blog readers =) Thanks for understanding and watch out for more inspiration in 2012 =)

Christmas Wishes!

I had planned to have a new party theme blog post for you before Christmas – one based around a Mermaid theme after so many facebook pages shared the Mermaid party theme shoot that I was involved with for Tickle the Imagination magazine =)

However my plans to complete this post tonight got delayed due to computer issues AND a feverish teething bub so this post so it is going to have to wait until the new year!

So I wanted to take this opportunity now to wish all of my blog readers and supporters a beautiful Christmas filled with the true joy of the Christmas season! I hope you have a lovely time celebrating it with your family and friends and remembering the very first Christmas was celebrated in a Stable, so even if your Christmas lunch/party isn’t amazingly styled or perfect it’s all about celebrating Christmas with all you who love  and teaching our little ones about this wonderful time of the year =)

I will not be blogging until the 10th January as I’ll be enjoying some time with visiting relatives over the Christmas and New Year period.

This blog journey which I started in June this year has been a joyful one only because of each of YOU coming along, sharing positive feedback and encouragement and reading this blog! I have delighted in that community and thank you for your support !

I thank all those businesses who have partnered with me with giveaways and been so generous, as well as those businesses who have joined our Party Directory!

I also send a huge thanks to my blog sponsers: Sweet Little Birdy, Saffy & May and Tiny Tots Toy Hire as well as my blog advertiser Decor for Kids!

I look forward to joining you all again in 2012!
