Up, up and away! This theme has become popular recently and I am not surprised! Such an enchanting theme and one that captures the wonder of all little one’s. A sky filled with hot air balloons is certainly an amazing sight and this theme gives you the opportunity to share that amazement with your little one!
This theme can work for a boy or a girl (I have some lovely girl selections to show you in this post!) and looks gorgeous as a vintage style party, or you could make it modern and bright!
Think hot air balloons & clouds as well as travel inspired items such as globes and maps! Use stripes to create a classic hot air balloon look or other patterns for a unique look.
Make sure you also check out our previous Aeroplane Theme post which has ideas for some cloud and travel related items as well!
Invitations/Printables
This invitation could work for either boy or girl:
A sweet fill in invitation for a first birthday (similar design also available for girls):
Decorations
For your hanging decorations you can’t go past hot air balloons themselves! Here are a few different options you could use! Even just one of these hanging in your party area is all you need to create a great effect.
Love these hot air balloons which would look gorgeous in the nursery/bedroom after the party. This red stripe is perfect for a vintage feel or a boys party:
Love this yellow which would also work well for a pastel colour scheme:
Or this lovely rainbow design which reminds me of the colourful hot air balloons you often see floating in the sky:
Some other options for hanging decorations are these lanterns:
Another option is to use a mobile to give the effect of a few floating hot air balloons which can then be used in your child’s bedroom after the party:
These vintage paper fans are great for incorporating maps into this theme. They are so lovely!
For some banners and bunting options, here are some delightful options which would look great behind your cake table, or strung around your party area.
This bunting is great if you want one you can use for various themes. I love the colours and they would work for a classic vintage theme for a boy:
Wall stickers are another fantastic way to decorate and there is an abundance of fantastic wall stickers available for the hot air balloon theme! These are often easy to remove which means they can be transferred to the bedroom after the party:
This border wall sticker could be used all around the room to create an overall hot air balloon scene around the party area:
Table Decor
For the table I’ve gone with stripes, as well as natural options (if you are opting for a vintage feel).
How bright and lovely are these napkins! Also available in other colours too:
This colourful design really fits in well with the look of brightly coloured hot air balloons:
Sweet Treats
For some extra special treats, use these moulds for some cute hot air balloon chocolates and cookies!
Love the stripes on this popcorn box which you could fill with a range of food items:
Cute stripey flag picks can be used to decorate your cupcakes or other food items:
Or use these cute vintage map paper punches to create cupcake toppers:
If you are doing a vintage hot air balloon party, these classic mason jars would look fantastic filled with sweets:
Love the floaty look of these scalloped cake stand:
This amazing cake stand would contribute to a great vintage feel:
Top the cake off with alternate coloured candles to carry on a stripey look:
Other Decorations/Theme Ideas
Use baskets around your party area as decorations, display items or upside down on your table with platters on top to carry on the hot air balloon theme. This basket is from Ikea but of course you can find all sorts of woven baskets at the shops or online:
Choose a special print to feature in your party area and to serve as a special memory of this birthday:
Loving these cushions!
This fabric (also available in pink) could be used as a tablerunner, tablecloth or backdrop!
Use these suitcases to create extra layers on your dessert table for a vintage theme:
These images could be used by you to create a range of items/decorations to incorporate into the party:
Lovely cute globe ornaments which would make a great centrepiece!
A little activity to keep the kids busy:
Favours/Take Home Gifts
I was unable to find any hot air balloon novelty items but I loved the idea of these map pinwheels:
Also this gorgeous notebook would make a sweet favour as well:
For any lollies/sweets, these favour bags can be used to carry on the stripe look:
These unique favour boxes link into the hot air balloon/travel theme and the kids are sure to love them!
Top off your packaging with one of these adorable tags attached with twine or a cute peg for a vintage look:
